A key part of your eating experience is the ambiance. With countless historic buildings throughout London and its surrounding villages, it is not surprising that some have been repurposed into restaurants.

Bel & the Dragon (Godalming)

We visited this restaurant and bar located in a converted church. Sunday 'lunch' menu goes into the evening and parking is within close walking distance and easy. The chef team includes a former sous chef of Gordon Ramsay at Claridges, so not surprisingly the food is fantastic. While the Sunday roast is nice though on the pricey side, but the children's menu includes fresh fish and rotisserie chicken for just £6. The booths towards the middle of the restaurant have shelves on either side with games and toys to help keep the kids entertained.

Galvin La Chapelle (Multiple)

We enjoyed delicious French food with service at their Victorian chapel close to Spitalfields. Bookatable regularly features a great deal with three courses and glass of champagne at this Michelin-rated restaurant - one of seven award-winning restaurants by brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin.

Middle Temple (London)

Dine with members of the Inns of Court, an Elizabethan Hall reminiscent of The Great Hall in Harry Potter. Lunch is served buffet style with hot and cold dishes, carvery and cooked to order dish of the day. Advance booking is required for 12:30-2 pm service and cellphones may not be used and photos are only allowed after members leave at 2 pm
